Ascension Parish Library is moving into its next phase of innovation and adaptation by expanding and improving essential educational services. The St. Amant Library & Community Center, which will total just over 37,000 square feet, is a joint effort between the library and the parish government located along Highway 431 (between Cannon and Bayou Narcisse Roads). The library is responsible for its portion of the project, and the parish government is responsible for the community center.
Upon completion, residents in St. Amant and the surrounding areas will enjoy a multipurpose complex, including a new library, a community center, and a point of distribution (POD) for emergencies.
The 16,495-square-foot library will feature an audiovisual recording studio, a virtual reality room, and a makerspace with digital design software, 3-D printers, and a laser cutter. There will also be a dedicated children’s area and a teen space.
The entire building will be set on piers with a retention pond, allowing water to flow underneath and minimizing the need for fill. Upon completion, the project will reduce the amount of water runoff from the site by 15 percent compared to the original site.
