Preserving Our History Collection

The Preserving Our History project is dedicated to the collection and digital preservation of images, documents, and interviews to record the unique history of Ascension Parish. The library is accepting personal historical images and documents to include in our Digital Library collection. In addition to photographs, we are also accepting yearbooks, church directories, advertisements, and any other materials related to Ascension parish’s culture and history. Ascension Parish Library is the newest member of the Louisiana Digital Consortium, a collection of libraries, universities, and archives that make their digital collections freely available to the public through the Louisiana Digital Library.

Ready to get involved? The library will scan your items and return them to you.

Do you have an incredible story to tell?  The library is also conducting oral history interviews.

Contact Assistant Director for Public Services Christopher Achee at 647-8924 or cachee@myapl.org for more information or to schedule an appointment to share your materials.

Visit the Voices of Ascension section of the collection to listen to local oral history interviews.

Funding for Rebirth PL grants has been provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and administered by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act economic stabilization plan. Additional funding is provided by the Union Pacific Foundation.
