Discover the wonders of the natural world right outside your door with children’s book author and illustrator, Karen Wallsten. Grow like a tree, touch a giant wasp nest, find out why cockroaches are good for our yards, and more.
Retired teacher and artist, Karen Wallsten, lives in Hammond, Louisiana, and is the author/illustrator of the children’s book The Adventures of Shiko & Walter. The story follows Shiko, a curious cat, and Walter, a wise companion, as they go on outdoor adventures together. Along the way, they discover plants, animals, and the little wonders of nature right outside their home.
Gonzales
Our Gonzales location was built in 1980 under the direction of Earline Decoteau, Director and serves as our Main Library location. It was expanded & renovated in 1996, 1998, and 2011, under the direction of Angelle Deshautelles, Director.
