Kickstart your creativity in the library’s Makerspaces when you learn to use all the new tools. Registration required.

Ascension Parish Library’s Makerspaces are a place for inventors, artists, and hobbyists to bring their ideas to life. Located within the Donaldsonville and St. Amant branches, we encourage community members to check out these new hands-on workspaces and collaborate, create, explore, and build.

To use equipment in the Makerspace, you must be an Ascension Parish Library cardholder* and take a training class to learn how to safely operate the machines and the procedures for checking in, out, and cleaning up. After taking the class, you will schedule a time to pass a task-based activity to earn a completion badge, which will then allow you to use the equipment on your own. 

Available Makerspace equipment at St. Amant includes:

·         Brother HC 1850 sewing - includes several needle and stitch options for many kinds of sewing projects.

·         Janome MB-7 Embroidery Machine - professional-style 7-needle embroidery machine built for embroiderers who want more color capacity and fewer interruptions in their workflow.

·         Bambu P2S 3D printer - creates physical objects from digital designs by building layers of material that can make toys, musical instruments, tools, and more.

·         Brother Scan-N-Cut - capable of cutting, scoring, and drawing or writing on various materials. It can be used with the Cricut Heat Press to create customized items like t-shirts.

·         Recording Studio - record podcasts or music. The studio has microphones, mixers, an electric guitar, a bass guitar, a drum set, a keyboard, a green screen, some lighting, and two high-quality cameras.

·         ComMarker Omni X – a 12-watt UV laser marker that uses a beam of light to cut, engrave, and shape designs into wood, acrylic, glass, fabric, metals, and more!

·         Carvera CNC – Use our computerized numeric control (CNC) to mill digital files into materials like wood, aluminum, copper, and plastic.

*Cardholders who are ages 12 to 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when using the makerspace. Those who are 15 and older may use the space on their own.
