This presentation will weave through the history of sugarcane from its early beginnings to its establishment as one of Louisiana’s most resilient crops.
Dr. Kenneth Gravois has been the LSU Agricultural Center’s sugarcane specialist since 2011. He is also the American Sugar Cane League Chair in Sugarcane Production. Dr. Gravois grew up on his family’s sugarcane farm in Vacherie, which was first started by his grandfather. The farm has grown to encompass acreage in three south Louisiana parishes.
This workshop is organized by the Ascension Parish Library and the LSU AgCenter to educate adults interested in gardening, landscaping, and modern agriculture.
Gonzales
Our Gonzales location was built in 1980 under the direction of Earline Decoteau, Director and serves as our Main Library location. It was expanded & renovated in 1996, 1998, and 2011, under the direction of Angelle Deshautelles, Director.
