Makerspace Training
Vinyl Cutter & Press
Thursday, August 20
1:00pm - 2:00pm
Kickstart your creativity in the library’s Makerspace as you learn to use all the new tools. Registration required.
Ascension Parish Library’s Makerspaces are a place for inventors, artists, and hobbyists to bring their ideas to life. Located within our Donaldsonville and St. Amant locations, we encourage community members to check out these new hands-on workspaces and collaborate, create, explore, and build.
To use equipment in the Makerspace, you must be an Ascension Parish Library cardholder* and take a training class to learn how to safely operate the machines and the procedures for checking in, out, and cleaning up. After taking the class, you will schedule a time to pass a task-based activity to earn a completion badge, which will then allow you to use the equipment on your own.
Available Makerspace equipment at St. Amant includes:
· Brother HC 1850 sewing - includes several needle and stitch options for many kinds of sewing projects.
· Bambu P2S 3D printer - creates physical objects from digital designs by building layers of material that can make toys, musical instruments, tools, and more.
· Brother Scan-N-Cut - capable of cutting, scoring, and drawing or writing on various materials. It can be used with the Cricut Heat Press to create customized items like t-shirts.
· Recording Studio - record podcasts or music. The studio has microphones, mixers, an electric guitar, a bass guitar, a drum set, a keyboard, a green screen, some lighting, and two high-quality cameras.
· ComMarker Omni X – a 12-watt UV laser marker that uses a beam of light to cut, engrave, and shape designs into wood, acrylic, glass, fabric, metals, and more!
· Carvera CNC – Use our computerized numeric control (CNC) to mill digital files into materials like wood, aluminum, copper, and plastic.
To attend one or all available training classes in St. Amant, click the button to register or call 225-647-6008.
*Cardholders who are ages 12–14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when using the Makerspace. Those who are 15 and older may use the space on their own.
