Meeting Room 2Travel back to the Revolutionary War and experience La Marcha de Gálvez, the epic campaign that unfolded right in our backyard.
On June 16, 1779, the Kingdom of Spain officially declared war on the Kingdom of Great Britain, joining its French allies in support of the American War of Independence. The Spanish governor of Louisiana, Bernardo de Gálvez, was ordered to recapture the Floridas, which had been lost to Britain. With a diverse army drawn from all walks of life in Louisiana, Gálvez marched up from New Orleans toward his first target, Baton Rouge. Commanding the militia in Pointe Coupee was Commandant Don Carlos de Grand-Pré. Don Carlos will tell the story of La Marcha de Gálvez and Louisiana's contribution to the American Revolution.
